Walks

Walking with the OVA

Welcome to our walk programme for May, June and July and there truly is something for everyone in this programme – even if you do not consider yourself to be a walker!
I am delighted that Geoff Porter, who represents the Natural Environment for the OVA, has kindly organised a walk to try and spot the elusive Silver-studded blue butterfly and we have two dates available to try and catch good weather.  Bookings are required for this walk as we need to limit numbers and amend dates if needed.  We also have a walk round Topsham led by a volunteer from the Museum which is so interesting – you may think you know Topsham until you follow one of these walks.
We also have a varied programme of walks including Dartmoor, West Dorset and following the success of the Sid Valley Ring Paul and Penny have offered a new route St Boniface Way.  Lyme Regis to Seaton via a different route than the coast path plus lots of interesting local walks makes for variety and hopefully appeals to a wide range of the membership.
Please join us for one or more, we are always pleased to see you.

We produce a quarterly programme of free, led walks – see below for our fabulous programme of Winter and early Spring 2023 walks.  There truly is something for everyone here, so please join us for a good walk together with great company in the wonderful countryside which surrounds us.  We look forward to seeing you.

All are welcome on our walks, members and non-members.  Where a walk requires booking, it will say so in the walk description – this is not to limit numbers but so that unavoidable last-minute changes of plan can be communicated.

We list our walks in the quarterly members’ magazine, but check here for updates to walks and new walks added to the programme after the printing deadline.

We provide a mix of walks of various lengths and, whilst many are in the Otter Valley, we do venture further away.  We encourage car-sharing and use of public transport.  The walk pace is adjusted to suit those walking with us.

What to bring:

  • Good shoes/boots for the Devon terrain (often muddy in places!)
  • A flask of tea or coffee, or your drink of choice – we always have a refreshment break
  • Check in the walk description to see if you need a picnic
  • Waterproofs … just in case!
  • Any personal medication that you might need (walk leaders carry a first aid kit)
  • Your contact details written on an ‘in case of emergency’ card (ask us for a blank card if you need one)

Suggestions are welcome and if you would like to contact the walk team our e-mail is [email protected]
